KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP (WKZO) — The Jail Garden in Kalamazoo County has made a comeback after a two year hiatus during reconstruction of the jail.
Sheriff Rick Fuller says its bigger and better than ever, with a larger variety of crops and more of them.
He says it not only gives selected inmates a chance to get out of their cells and learn some useful gardening skills and a little discipline, but it helps provide fresh veggies for a jail population that can always use better fresher ingredients in their meals.
Many of the plants and the equipment have been donated by local bedding plant operators and citizens.
The land is property that used to be a grassy area between the jail and Business loop I-94.
