DETROIT (WKZO) Its not the 175 years the prosecution wanted but the 45 years in federal prison given to 50 year old Dr. Farid Fata Friday morning means he will still likely spend the rest of his life in prison.
Dr. Fata was charged with diagnosing both healthy and ill patients with cancers they did not have, and over treating patients who did have the diseases, to accumulate millions in medical billings.
He has also been ordered to make restitution, mainly to the federal government and insurance companies for the millions he bilked from Medicaid and the private carriers.
The prosecution found records showing that well over 500 of his patients were over-treated or treated for cancers that simply did not exist.
They will get little for their pain and suffering and anxiety other than knowing that Dr. Fata is in prison.
