OSHTEMO (WKZO) — It doesn’t look like Oshtemo Township Trustees were really interested in starting up a police department of their own afterall.
It may have been a bargaining ploy designed to get a better deal out of the County Sheriff’s Department, and if that was the case, it worked.
In the end the board voted 6 to 1 to stick with the Sheriff’s latest proposal, which calls for the addition of a Lieutenant and more community policing, and more deputies over the next three years.
As for their own police department, board members called the proposal “ridiculous” and a “financial nightmare”.
There wasn’t a single resident who spoke in support of the idea.
They admitted last night that they have neither the cash or the facilities to start up their own police department even if they wanted to.
