LANSING, MI — Bills to deposit a billion-dollars into a state economic development fund to create jobs have been approved by the state House and Senate. The Strategic Outreach and Attraction Reserve Fund, or SOAR, will receive just over 846-million-dollars.
The bills prompted House Appropriations Committee chairman Thomas Albert of Lowell to step down from the chairmanship, calling it “reckless and irresponsible” spending.
The mostly bipsartisan supported plan is expected to be signed by Gov. Grechen Whitmer. The economic deverlopment money is designed to bring thousands of high paying jobs to the state.
