KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Parchment man accused of driving intoxicated and seriously injuring a Department of Kalamazoo Public Safety officer in a crash has been bound over for trial.
31-year-old Deymeon Todd is charged with operating while intoxicated causing serious injury according to MLive.
Officer Tom Maher was riding his motorcycle to work when he was struck by Todd on the morning of July 9 around 6:30 a.m. on North Riverview Drive, north of East G Avenue. He suffered serious injuries from the crash, including paralysis, and his left leg had to be amputated below the knee.
Court records indicated that Todd’s preliminary examination was waived on Tuesday, September 27 which means the case is now bound over for a criminal trial.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Kalamazoo County District Court, Todd said he drank at least one beer and several shots of tequila, and smoked a blunt of marijuana in the hours before the crash.
He had a blood alcohol content of .085 according to a breathalyzer test at 6:44 a.m. on the morning of July 9.
