TRAVERSE CITY (WKZO) — Governor Snyder has chosen an Automotive Engineering seminar in Traverse City to launch a campaign to encourage more students to pursue a technical education.
It’s called “We Run on Brainpower”, and it all starts with a Pure Michigan video.
Snyder says it’s designed to urge Michiganders to provide the state’s biggest and most lucrative industry, auto-making, with the kind of talent and expertise it will take to keep up with the Toyotas.
He says a recent study showed that only 41% of the states parents, guidance counselors and educators would recommend a career in the auto industry. Snyder says that has to change.
He has directed the MEDC to manage the communications campaign to try and adjust that mindset.
