LANSING (WKZO)– There is a growing chorus of lawmakers and constituents calling for the resignations of State Reps. Cindy Gamrat and Todd Courser after running on a family values platform and finding out they have been engaged in a sexual affair, violating their own marriage vows.
The calls for resignation are coming from both democrats and republicans.
Steve McNeal, the chair of the Allegan Republican Party is calling for her resignation, so is the Chairman of Progressive Michigan and U.S. Representative Candice Miller.
The sex scandal is one thing…but it’s the attempted cover-up that was captured on tape by an aide that could be criminal if taxpayer’s money was used.
Courser is accused of distributing a fake email saying he had sex with a male prostitute to hide a heterosexual affair.
“The Detroit News” has audio recordings where the Lapeer Republican asks an aide to create a bogus email saying Courser was caught having sex with a male prostitute at a nightclub to cover up an affair with fellow Representative Cindy Gamrat.
The aide claims Courser wanted him to send the message to fellow Republicans so his affair with Gamrat would seem tame.
Both Gamrat and Courser are married with children, and combined their legislative offices soon after being sworn in.
Legal experts say this may go beyond being a sex scandal if tax dollars or their offices were used to further the cover up.
House speaker Kevin Cotter is calling on the “ non-partisan House Business Office to perform a thorough investigation into the matter”.
