LANSING (WKZO) — Michigan House of Representatives investigators have computers and e-mail records from two members involved in a complex affair coverup.
House Speaker Kevin Cotter says analysis of the evidence will determine the next steps in the case. That could involve calling in the Attorney General or a local prosecutor to determine if any crimes were committed.
State Representative Todd Courser admits he plotted to misdirect attention from his relationship with Representative Cindy Gamrat. Courser explained on social media that texts from an anonymous number threatened to expose his extramarital activities, leading to his plan.
The “Detroit News” has reported that the Lapeer Republican sent an e-mail from a private account to make up allegations of sex with a male prostitute to deflate the pressure.
Instead it was like pouring gas on a fire.
Representatives of the Tea Party movement say its a stain on their efforts to earn credibility. Republicans says its hurting their brand and Democrats say its a black mark on the State House.
Representatives have the option to expell members with a two-thirds vote, but Cotter says its only been done twice in the history of Michigan. .
