LANSING (WKZO) — A former child star is auditioning for a role on Capitol Hill, and she comes with some interesting credentials.
Actress Melissa Gilbert announced today she’s running for Congress in Michigan’s Eighth district, which includes part of the state capital of Lansing.
Gilbert is best known for playing Laura Ingalls Wilder on “Little House on the Prairie” in the 1970’s and 80’s.
She has done more than act, she is also a former president of the Screen Actors Guild, a post that Ronald Reagan also held before he became a Republican, and then a President.
Gilbert will challenge freshman Republican Congressman Mike Bishop, who she says is vulnerable
