DORR TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A man who made his car go airborne while going over an overpass along US-131 and then crashing on the other side of that overpass has been formally charged.
Cockerham was arraigned Wednesday on a misdemeanor count of operating a vehicle with any presence of drugs.
It happened back on January 13 at the 142nd Avenue overpass near Dorr in Allegan County when Chandler Cockerham left the roadway and vaulted over the overpass in his car.
A video camera at a nearby business captured the action as his car flew over the road, hit a road sign but not any other vehicles. Cockerham sustained a cut to his head but was not seriously injured.
He had first said that he fell asleep behind the wheel, and admitted to drinking beforehand, saying he had two mixed drinks and a six pack of beer and then slept for four hours.
Court documents filed in May indicated that Cockerham had cocaine in his system when the crash happened.
His pretrial hearing in court is scheduled for Thursday, September 22nd.
