LAPEER (WKZO) — Petitions have been taken out in Lapeer beginning the process to recall Todd Courser because of the burning scandal that has now taken over his life.
The sponsor, a former supporter hopes Courser resigns long before he can pursue a recall.
There is also a chance the House will vote to expel him if the Business office finds any misuse of public funds
Democratic minority leader Tim Greimel wants the Attorney General to do the probe.
House Business Director Tim Bowlin say they will be interviewing 15 to 20 witnesses and are going to interview Gamrat and Courser, who are cooperating.
He plans to issue a report when he is done, possibly late next week.
For Democrats, the Courser/Gamrat scandal may be about two lawmakers breaking the rules, but for republicans and conservatives, it’s something much more visceral and troubling.
The Allegan County Republican Party has posted a draft of the resolution they will take up next Thursday. The possible misuse of tax dollars isn’t what chair Steve McNeal says Gamrat was sent to Lansing specifically to end the lying and the hipocracy, not to take it to new heights.
It calls for Gamrat’s immediate resignation. Members will review it and vote on the persuasive but non-binding resolution on the 20th.
The Michigan Young Republicans are the latest to chime in and call for Courser and Cindy Gamrat to resign. Chairman Christopher Arndt says his generation “came of age with a very dim view of hypocrisy in our public officials”.
