BERRIEN COUNTY (WKZO)– An unusual boating accident off St. Joseph has claimed one life and hospitalized several others, including some of the men dispatched to the scene.
Berrien County Deputies and EMT’s responded to an unknown medical emergency on board a cabin cruiser just off Jean Klock Park Sunday afternoon.
They found three people on-board who had apparently been exposed to Carbon Monoxide poisoning, loaded them up and rushed them to Lakeland St. Joseph Hospital.
One was dead on arrival, one was admitted for local treatment and the third sent to Grand Rapids.
Several of the first responders also required treatment for exposure to the carbon monoxide. It’s being investigated as an accident.
