KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A GoFundMe fundraiser has been organized by the family of WMU student Kaylee Gansberg who was struck and killed by a drunk driver on Friday, August 26, in the 2700 block of West Michigan Avenue, near the campus of Western Michigan University.
The 21-year-old of Lisle, Illinois died around 12 noon Saturday, August 27. .
The vehicle involved and the operator fled the scene of the accident.
KDPS says the driver, a 22-year-old Kalamazoo resident, was determined to be operating while under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident and was arrested on related charges and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail.
The GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up to help with funeral expenses.
The fundraiser itself says, “Kaylee Ann was a shining star — she set the world on fire and her bright light always shone through. She was a young, charismatic girl with so much life to live, places to see, and dreams to accomplish.”
So far the effort has raised more than $32,000 of it’s target goal of $5,000.
