TWISP, WASHINGTON (WKZO) — It’s been revealed that one of three U.S. Forest Service firefighters killed near Twisp, Washington was a west Michigan man.
They say Richard Wheeler of South Haven was on board a vehicle that was forced off the road by a forest fire that suddenly shifted directions.
Four others were injured in the crash. Local Residents consider them heroes.
Washington Governor Jay Inslee asked for prayers as firefighters battle the worst outbreak of western fires in U.S. History.
Funeral services are still being planned.
