KALAMAZOO (WKZO) —
Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting says he is declining to authorize charges against a former Kalamazoo College student who was implicated by Public Safety in sending death threats to the Faculty at the Private Liberal Arts College.
The student was identified as the source by tracing her IP, according to Public Safety detectives, who requested warrants.
Getting wasn’t initially satisfied and kicked it back to the detectives for further evidence.
Since then Kalamazoo College stepped forward with their own information, saying that particular student did not log onto her laptop until 35-minutes after the initial post, and then only in an attempt to delete the threatening post.
At the time the campus was in the middle of a big debate over a student who wanted permission to open-carry a pistol on campus.
The overwhelming majority on campus, including the administration did not want him too, stating there were college policies prohibiting it.
News coverage of the debate sparked a number of gun advocates to react online to the College’s position, and not all of them were polite, including the one posted in a google document late on March 3rd, 2015 that included threats against the faculty.
Prosecutor Getting says without proof who issued the post, he isn’t issuing warrants.
