KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney has completed it’s review of the officer involved fatal shooting of Nicholas Conklin on March 20, 2022 at 1008 South Westnedge Avenue in Kalamazoo.
According to a news release dated Thursday, August 25, Kalamazoo County Prosecuting Attorney Jeff Getting ruled that Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Officer Taylor Boreham acted in lawful self-defense when he used deadly forces against Conklin.
He went onto say that the actions of Mr. Conklin posed an immediate and extreme threat of death or serious injury to Boreham, other officers, and the people nearby, and that Officer Boreham’s assessment of an immediate threat was both honest and reasonable.
KDPS officers were responding to a 9-1-1 call they received around 10 a.m. on March 20 that the 33-year-old was staying at that address and was in possession of a stolen Ford F-150 truck.
According to investigators, Conklin first shot at police and was then killed when the officer returned fire.
