CHICAGO (WKZO) — Officials at the BP Refinery in Whiting, Indiana finally went on the record, saying they were back up to full production.
That’s a big relief for motorists, and gas price wholesalers, who had gone ahead and slashed prices on the rumor that the plant was operating again.
Gasbuddy.com’s Patrick Dehaan says we should see prices dropping 25 to 50 cents over the next two weeks, catching up to national numbers.
He says the combined slow-down in China, the suggestion that Iranian oil fields could soon be pumping oil onto world markets again, and the normal drop in demand in the fall could mean even lower prices this fall than last fall.
GasBuddy.com’s Patrick Dehaan says that rumors that it was once again at full capacity that triggered gas price drops over the weekend.
Attorney General Bill Schuette also issued a statement announcing the opening and also predicting that gas prices could soon drop.
Schuette demanded transparency from BP on the operation of the refinery, but it appears they were back at full capacity for at least three days before they went public with the news.
