DULUTH MN (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo Growlers are the 2022 Northwoods League champions.
Kalamazoo clinched the title with an 8-3 win over the Duluth Huskies Thursday night in Duluth.
The Growlers scored three runs in the 2nd inning to take control of the game.
Alex Calarco (Northwestern University) led the offense with three hits including two doubles and a hit by pitch.
Zach Spradlin (Ottawa University) reached base five times with three hits and two walks scoring once as he reached base.
Anthony Stephan (University of Virginia) also had three hits with one RBI and one walk.
Jerad Berkenpas started the game and pitched six strong innings, limiting the Huskies to just one run.
The Growlers won the first half in the Great Lakes East Division, and defeated Traverse City, Wisconsin Rapids, and Duluth to win the championship.
