The members an inter-denominational, inter-racial and bi-partisan group of community activists invited the community for some frank talk about the issue of racism, how to combat it in our everyday lives and how to deal with it on an institutional level.
The event, which was put on by Interfaith Strategy for Advocacy and Action in the Community, was inspired by the Charleston shootings and only meant to be the starting point of a much larger effort to battle racism in Kalamazoo.
Other events are being planned by ISAAC, including one-day and two-day immersion programs.
The organization’s goal is to reduce racial tension, with the hope of keeping similar killings that have happened elsewhere in the country from happening here.
