KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan Republican Attorney General candidate Matthew DePerno of Kalamazoo said this morning allegations he is involved in a conspiracy to hack into and manipulate voting machines “are totally garbage.”
DePerno’s comments came in an interview with Michigan’s Big Show’s Michael Patrick Shiels Monday, one day after Attorney General Dana Nessel announced her office is asking for the appointment of a special prosecutor to consider potential charges against nine individuals. MIRS News says the list includes DePerno, state Representative Daire Rendon of Lake City,) and Barry County Sheriff Dar Leaf.
“I have nothing to do with any hotel rooms or any Airbnbs,” DePerno replied to a question. “Ninety percent of the facts that she lays out, that she calls facts, in her petition are either false or I have no knowledge of what she’s talking about.”
In a petition, Nessel alleges that DePerno, Rendon and an attorney “orchestrated a coordinated plan to gain access to voting tabulators” used in Roscommon, Barry and Missaukee counties.
The Attorney General’s office says five tabulators were taken to hotels and/or Airbnbs in Oakland County where others “broke into the tabulators and performed ‘tests’ on the equipment.”
The petition reads, “It was determined during the investigation that DePerno was present at a hotel room during such ‘testing.'”
