SPRINGFIELD (WKZO) – A smoky fire at a metal recycling yard near Battle Creek sent huge black plumes of smoke into the air, but it’s hard to assess the damage when the only property that burned was a lot of junk and the building that was destroyed was destined for demolition anyway.
It was first reported at 2:30 Friday Afternoon and burned for hours before it was under control.
The good news is that there were no injuries as a result of the fire at Springfield Metal Recycling.
The real cost will come in the expenditure of public assets to put out the fire, which required the assignment of trucks and manpower from seven different municipal and township fire departments.
Fire units were deployed through the night to put out hotspots.
