LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Gov. Rick Snyder says the Gamrat-Courser affair has become a legislative distraction, pulling attention away from issues the state must work on.
Snyder also said that he hopes the scandal will quickly go away.
“In terms of major agenda items we’re working on, obviously, transportation, we have an issue with distressed schools, we have an energy package going through that’s being worked on in both the House and the Senate, then criminal justice reform,” Snyder said. “So, there’s a full plate of major items.”
Snyder presided over another meeting of the Quadrant, the four House and Senate leaders Tuesday, but while progress was reported, no agreements were announced.
There have been reports that while the governor, the Senate leadership and House democrats are generally of one mind, that they need a substantial amount of new revenue to make future road construction sustainable, House Speaker Kevin Cotter isn’t so sure he can find the votes.
Future talks are planned, but the next few will be with the lieutenant governor. Snyder leaves Wednesday afternoon for more trade talks in Japan and Germany.
