KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A Kalamazoo man who shot and killed a woman could serve just over three years in prison for second-degree murder after cutting a deal with prosecutors.
James Shaver admitted to killing 35-year-old Tawana Henderson, but says he didn’t mean to, and, despite Shaver being a repeat offender, her family has forgiven him and asked the judge for leniency.
Shaver got into a gun fight at a family gathering over two years ago on Cobb Street and one of the stray bullets struck and killed Henderson.
Shaver also suffered multiple wounds in the exchange and barely survived.
He was given 58 months to 15 years in prison, but with credit for the year-and-a-half he has spent in a jail cell waiting for his trial.
