KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The City of Kalamazoo has already begun their “Streets for All” project to reshape how traffic of all kinds flows through the downtown. The public participation component begins, or really restarts tonight.
It’s a massive project that could take a decade to complete, to include turning one-way streets to two-way, and improving access and safety for bike riders and pedestrians.
It was begun several years ago but City Planner Christina Anderson says the pandemic put the project on hold.
Tonight they will be at the old City Fire Station at Douglas and North to talk about how the plans will affect the area.
Anderson says they are scheduling sessions with other neighborhoods, with downtown officials and at a variety of other events and non-events to get citizen input.
This evening’s session for the Douglas and Stuart Neighborhoods begins at 6:00 p.m.
The changes have already begun. Park and Westnedge Avenues on the Northside have been repaved, repainted, and realigned to create bike lanes.
