LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Formal charges are expected to be filed Thursday against the man witnesses say intentionally ran down a Lansing firefighter participating in a “Fill the Boot” fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Capt. Jim Kraus said the driver of a pickup had been seen arguing with Firefighter Dennis Rodeman just before 4 p.m. Wednesday at the corner of Cedar St. and Jolly Road in Lansing.
This witness said it was obviously intentional.
“I look over, and I see the gentleman’s feet in the air, and then he fell, then I saw the car take off,” the man, who was not identified, told reporters Wednesday. “It was just a horrible thing.”
The 22-year old suspect was chased through several neighborhoods, then tried to escape on foot. He was later arrested.
Rodeman, a veteran of Iraq, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and a died a few hours later.
He leaves behind a pregnant wife.
