NILES (WKZO-AM) — A 10-month-old is dead and five others hurt after a two-car crash on U.S. 31 near Niles.
Michigan State Police say it happened at around 4 p.m. Thursday near U.S. 12 after one of the vehicles ran over a bucket and came to a stop on the freeway.
The driver of the stopped vehicle, 22-year-old Tagila Williams of Benton Harbor, and three other child passengers were hospitalized in South Bend, Ind., with moderate-to-serious injuries.
The baby in Williams’ vehicle, identified as Jamando Guidry, died after being taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
The driver of the other vehicle, 19-year-old Alayna Rishaug of New Carlisle, Ind., suffered minor injuries.
Investigators are trying to figure out if the children in Williams’ vehicle were properly restrained.
