KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — After four months of construction, a nature-themed playground will soon be open to children.
City officials are getting set to hold a grand opening ceremony for the Children’s Nature Playscape on Friday, July 15 at Bronson Park.
Organizers say the playground’s opening will serve as the end of the first phase toward establishing one of the largest nature-themed play areas in the U.S.
$1 million of the $1.2 million dollar project has been raised so far by local donors, nonprofit organizations and First Congregational Church. The project’s second phase expected to cost roughly $600,000.
The the playscape will offer an accessible paved walkway, log benches for children, and artistic benches for adults. Native tall grass, shrubs and other plants will border the site, which will also include play structures, turf and a pondless stream.
The grand opening is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. at 302 Academy Street, next to Bronson Park. The public is invited to attend.
