KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The assistant principal of Portage West Middle School has been bound over to stand trial for second-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Kevin Doerfler is accused of fondling a 14-year-old girl in a classroom full of other students.
The alleged victim who filed the complaint testified that Doerfler came up to her desk at the beginning of a math class, put one hand on her back and his other on her chest.
The attorney for Doerfler said the actions described by the victim and two other boys in the classroom are completely out of character for the veteran educator.
Doerfler remains on paid administrative leave until his criminal case is settled, the district said.
