BANGOR TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The passenger in a vehicle that crash into a tree in the 61000 block of 46th Avenue in Van Buren County’s Bangor Township is in critical condition after rescue crews had to cut the man out of the vehicle.
The accident happened around 8:40 p.m. Monday night when the vehicle driven by a 26-year-old from Illinois failed to follow a curve in the roadway, left the road, and struck a tree head-on.
The driver was able to exit the vehicle, but the 31-year-old passenger from Illinois was pinned inside. The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office says the vehicle was pinned against a tree.
Once Hartford and Lawrence Fire Departments arrived on scene, they began work on extricating the passenger. After they were able to cut the door off of the vehicle, they began life saving measures on the passenger, who had sustained life threatening injuries.
Upon the arrival of EMS, both occupants were immediately transported to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, where the passenger remains in critical condition.
It was not immediately known if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
