KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Health officials in Branch, Hillsdale and St. Joseph counties say four dead birds have tested positive for West Nile Virus.
Angela Minicuci with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services said people in those counties should do what they can to avoid mosquito bites.
The finds have also been added to the state’s map of hotspots where, where risk of exposure is greatest.
“That is mapped pretty closely and carefully,” Minicuci said.
No human cases have been reported in the Kalamazoo area so far.
The threat will remain until the first hard freeze kills off the mosquitoes. Right now, forecasts suggests that might take a while.
