BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — Three women have been charged with animal cruelty after the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office found a rickety barn full of starving animals.
The raid took place about two weeks ago, in the 54000-block of 9 Mile Road in Burlington Township.
In all, they found nearly 340 animals being held in tiny pens and cages on the property. Found inside the barn were pigs, rabbits, goats, sheep, alpacas and miniature horses, chickens, ducks, turkeys and guinea pigs.
All of them were starved or dehydrated. Some had to be put down.
The rest of the animals have been taken to foster homes arranged by a number of volunteer animal shelter and sanctuary group.
