BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — Battle Creek is mourning the death of a prominent local physician, after he was struck and killed by a motorist while riding his bicycle.
He’s been identified as 55-year-old Gregory Harrington, an infectious disease specialist at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. He also served as the medical director for the Calhoun County Health Department.
He was killed riding his bike from Battle Creek to Lansing, part of a planned trip to watch the football game between Michigan State and Central Michigan.
Harrington was pedaling northeast on M-78 in Pennfield Township at about 4 p.m. Friday when he was struck from behind by a 15-year-old in a van who was driving on a learner’s permit.
The collision remains under investigation. Harrington’s funeral has been set for Thursday.
Harrington leaves behind a wife and three children.
