FRUITPORT (WKZO-AM) — A Hudsonville man accused of barging into a parked car and trying to pepper spray a woman in the front seat is in the Muskegon County Jail on $50,000 bond.
Kalani Rei Tanis, 19, has been arraigned on unlawful imprisonment and weapons-related charges.
Prosecutors say Tanis was masked when he made his way into the car, which was parked at a discount goods store in Fruitport on Saturday afternoon. The woman’s two-year-old son was in the back seat at the time of the incident.
Authorities say the woman was able to repel the attack and honked the vehicle’s horn, scaring the suspect away. Tanis was arrested a short distance from the scene.
