BATTLE CREEK (WKZO) — A violent collision early Saturday morning has left a Battle Creek man in critical condition in Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.
Officers say that 54-year-old David Thompson was traveling with eastbound traffic on M-66 near Columbia, when he tried to pass slower cars, lost control of his Ford Mustang, shot through the median and hit a Suzuki sedan coming in the opposite direction, driven by 37-year-old Eric Williams of Battle Creek.
First responders found Thompson lying on the ground, but it’s not clear if he stumbled out of the wrecked Mustang and collapsed or was ejected from the car.
Thompson and Williams were both transported to Emergency at Bronson Battle Creek, and then Thompson was transferred to Bronson in Kalamazoo for emergency surgery, where he was last listed in critical condition. Williams is reportedly in good condition.
Police believe that speed and rain-slickened pavement may have been to blame for the crash.
