OSHTEMO (WKZO-AM) — A man is jailed and another is dead after a shooting southeast of Stadium Drive and South 6th Street in Oshtemo Township.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s deputies say it happened after a domestic dispute in the 4600-block of Red Leaf Street near the Woodland Estates area before 12:15 a.m. Tuesday.
Investigators say a the shooting victim was visiting with his girlfriend when they began to fight, prompting a 23-year-old neighbor to bolt out of his mobile home with a gun. He then ordered the man, who was found behind a neighbor’s shed, to reveal himself from the darkness.
He then opened fire after a verbal altercation.
The victim, 27, was rushed to Borgess Medical Center in critical condition. The shooter is being held on an attempted murder charge.
The woman was not hurt.
UPDATE – 10/7 at 3:58 a.m.: The 27-year-old man shot and killed has been identified as Bryan Joseph Bigham.
Charges against the shooter have been temporarilly denied. Prosecutors requested more information from investigators before making a decision on whether to file charges, according to a press release.
