KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A controversial resolution that would have required that ballots from the 2020 election be retained for further investigation has been rejected by the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners.
Michigan elections produce a lot of paper, and the state allows local clerks to dispose of it two years after the election.
At their regular meeting Tuesday, Republican Commissioner Jeff Heppler proposed that the paperwork be kept another two years.
But Commissioners Tracy Hall and Jen Strebs cried foul, calling it an attempt to perpetuate the myth of fraud in the last Presidential vote, and that it was disrespectful to local elections officials.
Clerk Meredith Place says it would also be a burden to local clerks who don’t have the space or the funding for storage.
There have been no allegations of election fraud in Kalamazoo County and there are no pending cases. The resolution was rejected.
