KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners has approved their 2016 annual budget, which includes a 2.5 percent across-the-board pay hike for employees after years of pay freezes because of the woeful state of public funding.
Board chairperson John Taylor believes that may not be enough to make their salaries competitive with what other counties are paying, but it’s the best they can do for now.
“I think we’ve moved a lot in the last year from where we were, telling people that they’re lucky to have jobs,” Taylor said. “We’ve come a long way from that, and we’ve got a long way to go still.”
The $87 million dollar budget will be funded by the current tax rate.
