LANSING, MI (WJXQ) – Challenges from businessman Perry Johnson and financial adviser Michael Markey have been denied by the Michigan Court of Appeals as both tried to get on the August primary ballot for governor.
Johnson was the first candidate to get a decision from the judges, who disagreed with his campaign’s argument that the Board of State Canvassers was obligated to compare every petition signature. They cited that case in denying Markey’s similar request.
The men were among the five Republican candidates for governor booted last week from the ballot due to fraudulent petition signatures. The Appeal Court’s decision could be appealed to the Michigan Supreme Court.
Former Detroit Police Chief Jame Craig also lost his appeal to be on the ballot.
