KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity has accepted a $20,000 check from Consumers Energy to help reduce the utility bills of low-income residents in the Kalamazoo metropolitan area.
Don Jones is the executive director of the non-profit and says they’ll focus the funds on weatherization and making homes more energy-efficient.
“Let’s seal that baby up, lets gets an energy-efficient furnace in there that’s ducted and vented appropriately and safely, let’s do the same with the water heater, and then let’s drop some CFL light bulbs and other energy-efficient things inside that house,” Jones said.
The giant check was handed off in the Edison Neighborhood on Friday at a Habitat home rehab site on Cameron Street.
