EMMETT TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — A man from Battle Creek is dead after crashing his motorcycle at an estimated 90 mph while trying to outrun Michigan State Police.
MSP investigators say Zachary Phillips, 22, was spotted speeding on Columbia Avenue in Emmett Township just before 1 a.m.
He bolted after being pulled over during a traffic stop, with the pursuit reaching 100 mph.
Troopers say Phillips got as far as Cliff Street and Raymond Avenue. That’s where he lost control and went off the roadway.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators are still trying to figure out why Phillips fled.
