WASHINGTON (WKZO-AM) — Additional details have been released about the crash of a British Royal Air Force helicopter in Afghanistan that killed a native of Comstock and several others Sunday.
The U.S. Department of Defense is now saying five people were killed and another five hurt in that crash in Kabul over the weekend.
Master Sgt. Greg Kuhse, 38, joined the Air Force in 1996, a year after graduating from Comstock High School just outside of Kalamazoo. Comstock Supt. Todd Mora said Kuhse was an athlete who seemed focused on a military career.
“Airman Kuhse, obviously, was a person who was selfless, in the fact that he was willing to put his life at risk to protect everybody else’s,” Mora said. “He is, by definition, a hero.”
Kuhse’s family has asked for privacy. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
