KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A man from Kalamazoo who shot and killed a 19-year-old man over a bad drug deal two summers ago has been sentenced to 20 to 50 years in prison.
It all began because a friend of Daquon Pritchett’s used a fake $100 bill to buy marijuana. That led to the confrontation on Mount Olivet Road that resulted in Christopher Adams’ death.
It took three tries to prosecute Pritchett.
The first trial had to be cancelled when they couldn’t seat a jury for the highly-publicized case. Juror misconduct forced a mistrial the second time.
The third time, Pritchett was convicted of second-degree murder, solicitation of retaliation against a witness and a felony gun count.
Because he used a gun, he will serve two years before he begins to serve his longer sentence, making it a minimum of 22-years before he will be eligible for parole.
