KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The Michigan Department of Transportation will be opening up one of the new Sprinkle Road roundabouts and the bridge over Interstate 94 in Kalamazoo this weekend, but not to vehicles.
Agency spokesperson Nick Schirripa said MDOT’s “Walkabout in the Roundabout” is designed to get people aquatinted with new traffic features adjacent to the freeway. They’re also hoping to ease anxiety over the circular intersections.
“You’ll have access to the sidewalk, you’ll be able to get over the bridge and get to the southern roundabout, so we’re going to close it down for a couple of hours and just give people the chance to walk it,” Schirripa said.
Schirripa said the event starts at 1 p.m. on Sunday. MDOT is anticipating the area to open up before Nov. 18.
