VAN BUREN COUNTY (WKZO-AM) — A 23-year-old mother was arrested after she rolled her minivan in Van Buren County late Tuesday, causing minor injuries to her three-year-old and six-year-old children inside the vehicle.
It happened last evening at approximately 9:42 p.m. on County Road 384 in Columbia Township. The vehicle stopped when it hit a couple of trees.
Responding deputies found children inside, who had been unrestrained.
The driver was not hurt, but she admitted that she had been drinking. She smelled strongly of alcohol, investigators said.
She had a blood-alcohol count of .12.
The two children were taken to South Haven Hospital for treatment.
The woman was taken to jail, charged with drunk driving, driving while intoxicated with children and not having a driver’s license. The prosecutor may add more charges when the woman is arraigned.
