PORTAGE (WKZO-AM) — A man who ambushed a Portage woman as she was running near Portage Creek has been sentenced to six months in jail.
Jamal Johnson, 19, was also given three years probation and a boot camp recommendation Monday. Portage Public Safety says the victim was on Bicentennial Trail between Milham Avenue and Kilgore Road on Aug. 2 when Johnson surprised her, putting a shirt over her head and tossing her to the ground.
Johnson then ran from the scene after trying to muffle the woman’s screams.
He was found by officers later that day near Loy Norrix High School and taken into custody.
In a deal cut with prosecutors, Johnson pleaded guilty to a felony unlawful imprisonment charge last month.
