KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Former Western Michigan University hockey captain Paul Washe could now face a trial for allegations of sexually assaulting a woman late last year.
Kalamazoo County District Court Judge Christopher Haenicke ruled Wednesday there was probable cause to bind the case over from district court to circuit court during a preliminary examination. He is charged with two felony counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct using force or coercion.
The charges against Washe stems from a party at a house on Fraternity Village Drive in December 2021. She said the sexual encounter was not consensual while Washe has previously told police it was.
Washe is a WMU graduate student, and suspended indefinitely from the team in January.
