KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — One man remains at large and a second was tackled in a backyard and taken into custody after both bolted from the scene of a 911 call about a person loading a shotgun near downtown Kalamazoo.
Kalamazoo Public Safety says one of the men fired a round as officers gave chase near North Burdick and West Patterson streets at around 12:20 a.m. Thursday.
Officers say they found a pistol-grip shotgun and ammunition as they were arresting the 25-year-old from Kalamazoo, who they claim was drunk at the time. He was jailed on a gun-related felony, resisting and obstructing and operating a firearm while intoxicated.
A reckless discharge of a firearm charge has also been submitted to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office.
Police dogs lost of scent of the second man near Lulu Street and North Westnedge Avenue.
They believe he has a dark complexion and is between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10. He was wearing a white shirt, a white baseball cap, blue jeans and red shoes at the time of the incident.
