PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Portage City Council has a budget for their next fiscal year, which begins July 1, 2022.
The $88 million plan won initial approval unanimously and will get a formal vote at their next meeting.
Acting City Manager Adam Herringa says they will have more money to work with in the coming year and they plan to spend it to make the city better, without increasing the tax rate.

He says it maintains their position in the lower 20% for expenditures among comparably sized cities.
The plan is to spend about $15-million dollars more this coming year, about 19% more than the last budget, primarily due to an increase in infrastructure and capital improvement projects.
