KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — MLive reported Tuesday that a Kalamazoo teenager has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a Jackson teenager.
The suspect is identified as 17-year-old Aivery Banks, who is charged as an adult with the murder of 16-year-old Lataveon Cosey on August 25 in Blackman Township. According to court records, he is also facing a charge of felony firearms.
Jackson County Prosecutor Jerry Jarzynka told MLive that a minor can be tried as an adult if it involves a violent felony crime. Banks was arrested on August 28 in Kalamazoo, with his arraignment date held Monday. He is currently in custody at the Jackson County Jail.
Banks will be back in court on September 11. The case remains under investigation at this time.
