ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office says that a helmet most likely kept injuries less severe for a motorcyclist involved in a crash with a pickup truck on Sunday, May 1, in St. Joseph County.
The accident happened in Nottawa Township around 5:40 p.m. at the intersection of M-86 and Nottawa Road.
Authorities say that a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 23-year-old Burr Oak resident, was stopped at the stop sign on Nottawa Road waiting to cross the intersection.
A 1998 Honda three wheeled motorcycle, driven by a 77-year-old Sturgis man was heading westbound on M-86 when the pickup attempted to cross the intersection, striking the motorcycle.
The 77-year-old was thrown from the motorcycle upon hitting the pickup. Police say he was alert and conscious before being taken to Bronson Hospital with serious injuries.
The driver and passenger of the Silverado were not injured, and alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
